Sparta's Adopt-A-Spot Garden Bed Program! Sign-Up Here!

The Sparta Adopt-a-Spot program is designed to encourage community involvement in our continuing efforts to keep Sparta a beautiful place to live, work, and visit!  Sparta is proud to have dozens of flower gardens that are a visual representation of the pride that we have in our community.  The program utilizes volunteers from businesses, organizations, clubs, churches, school groups, teams, and families to maintain our beautiful gardens through the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons.

Flowers are a labor of love, but takes time to make them great!

Goals:

  • To keep the gardens of Sparta beautiful!

  • To encourage community involvement and service

Steps:

  • Choose to participate in the program!

  • Fill out the form and send it in!

  • Plan out, purchase flowers, and plant your bed with flowers and grasses that would nice in that area.  Creativity is welcome!

  • Maintain the bed through the Spring, Summer, and Fall season that includes fertilizing, dead heading, weeding, and edging when needed.

We do ask that anyone who participates in this program see it through to the end.  We do not want to see a garden abandoned in the middle of the growing season!  This program was set up to make our community look nice, not neglected.  Your commitment for the full growing season is important!  Although we love to see volunteers, this program can be utilized with the labor of paid professionals as sponsored by a business.

Village Responsibilities:

  • Support gardeners

  • Water gardens

  • Purchase Adopt-a-Spot recognition signage for each adopted garden

  • List adopter’s names in media coverage and on Facebook page

  • Provide soil (when requested) and mulch (when requested) in the spring prior to planting

  • Spring Cleanup (usually by April 1) and Fall Clean up (usually by October 15)

Rules:

  • Please do not plant invasive species or poisonous species or trees

  • Adopt-a-Spot locations are irrigated, which means there are irrigation lines under the soil.  Please hand dig all plantings to avoid any irrigation line breaks.
