Street Art Review: Classical Art in Sparta 2015
Sparta's Street Art Review will be hosting a twist this year, with a “Classic” Street Art Review featuring famous and classical works by artists that are considered masters of their trade. Some of these pieces today are priceless pieces that capture the different methods and techniques of art galleries across the world!
In the walking tour that will be released in June 2015, the ten images can be found along mainstreet in downtown Sparta. Each 2x3' replica will have an informational attachment that will describe the classic work and the creator of the piece. The showcase will last through summer 2015 and will be auctioned off in September.
Why Classic Art?
The Sparta DDA is committed to providing fun and educational and cultural experiences in downtown Sparta. In the past few years, the DDA has hosted sculpture tours such as the Apple Jam and Barn Raising, and has also hosted an elaborate mural debut which are still on display in three locations in downtown Sparta. The “Classic” twist is set to provide new educational art experiences along the walking tour of the downtown. The Sparta DDA is planning to continue the opportunities to showcase public created art from local and regional artists in the future.
Who chose these pieces?
The Sparta DDA has an Street Art Review committee that works within the budget provided to implement the art project. These pieces were chosen by that committee for their relevancy to the classic art world, their availability to obtain reproductions, and their variety of painting techniques and styles.
Who funds this program?
The Sparta DDA uses tax increment capture to promote art and culture in downtown Sparta through the Street Art Review series. This is the fourth installment of art in the public setting. Images can be found below of the previous Street Art Review projects.
