On September 11, 2023, Sparta’s Pack 3280 and Boy Scout Troop 704 came together in Lamoreaux Park to honor those that lost their lives in the 9/11 attack. For over 20 years the Boy Scouts have remembered those lives by having a continuous salute to the flag from dawn to dusk at the Gerald R. Ford Museum downtown Grand Rapids. As years went by, the salute has branched out to other areas in Michigan. From Traverse City to the SS Silversides in Muskegon to our very own Lamoreaux Park in Sparta, there are scouts saluting and paying their respects. Most of these scouts were not born when the attacks happened, but have been told of the many attacks that day on America. They have been told how Americans came together to support and help one another through this horrific event. Sparta thanks you scouts for coming together to salute those that we lost on that day.
“On my honor, I will do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”
