Ever have that one business that really steps up for the community during a moment that defines who they are? Well, in the Sparta area, we actually have SO MANY of these businesses, listing every example we can get our hands on would be hard, it could go on for days! But, that’s exactly the point. During this COVID-19 pandemic, we think it is time to start listing each and every one of them. And we will keep sharing those stories – of hope, of caring, or going above or beyond…. Help us share these moments to lift up our community, because we will get through this by coming together as a community.
MI Vinyl World, the new retail and crafting shop in downtown Sparta, hasn’t even be able to celebrate their grand opening in their new location (in the old Sparta Variety building) across from ChoiceOne Bank. But they've brought the community together by handing out one free Sparta Strong decal – set up on the outside of their building for our community to take and display. True Spartan Spirit right there! Bravo! And we cannot wait to celebrate their grand opening at some point in the future with the community!
Brick Haus Brews, also looking to celebrate their grand opening in downtown Sparta soon, has opened their doors for takeout only for the time being – and opened their doors (figuratively) they have! After delivering dozens of stone fire pizzas to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and a box of gloves from their inventory to help supply the people on the front lines. Pictured here, some of our front-line heroes at the DeVos Children’s Hospital!
Papa Piccione’s of Kent City heard the cry for food in homes within the first week of the original school shut downs and with the help of many loyal customers and local businesses provided over 1,000 free breakfasts for families. People of the community stepped up helping deliver the food to families who weren’t able to pick up at the restaurant.
Sparta Schools Food Service Staff
Working long hours, non stop to help take care of the children in Sparta serving on average 5,000 meals per week. These photos were posted to facebook to show the work of these amazing people with comments from the community including, “All of you are hero’s in my eyes!”, “Thank you for all your help!!!!”, and “This is dedication!”. Bravo to the tremendous efforts of our Sparta Schools Food Service Staff – we truly appreciate you stepping up in a huge time of need for the youth of our community!
We know THERE ARE MORE! We can’t wait to continue to share them with you in upcoming editions!
Help us share these moments by sending us a message, posting to our facebook page Sparta Today, or telling us about a business or organization stepping up during this time. Sparta really is a special community, thank you for helping us share all the reasons why!
