In 1950, the Peach Ridge Fruit Growers Association held their first “Apple Smorgasbord.” People gathered together to share apple dishes and recipes. Hundreds of people attended, and one year, they had as many as 202 dishes to share! This started a community tradition of celebrating the Apple Harvest, one that we still carry on 75 years later.
While apples are still the heart of Sparta, the way we celebrate them looks a little different. Today, we call our annual harvest celebration Michigan Apple Fest, and we pack downtown Sparta with apple-themed activities for all ages! This year, join us on September 19-20 for two days of fun for the whole family!
You can look forward to exciting events like Apple Pie Eating Contests (one for adults, and one for kids), live music, artisan vendors, apple pie baking contest, the adult Harvest Hayride, and more! More details are coming soon to https://www.spartachamber.com/michigan-apple-fest
Mark your calendar for September 19-20, and join us for a historic Sparta tradition!
